The Flo Dancewear Story
Flo Dancewear is the creation of Felicia Palanca, a former senior artist with the Australian Ballet Company, mother of two beautiful children and designer with international experience.
“From the age of three, I wanted to dance; it’s all I ever wanted to do. I loved the freedom my body felt when I moved to music. Dancing on stage was a dream world, a magical place that carries so many memories for me. This is where my inspiration for Flo Dancewear originated.”
Felicia was a senior dancer with the Australian Ballet for over 10 years dancing the Principal Roles in such classics such as Copelia, Don Quixote, The Nutcracker and Swan Lake. Felicia was also a dynamic contemporary dancer leading the Australian Ballet as she danced in theatres across Australia and worldwide, including New York, Shanghai Tokyo, Paris and London.
“When I wasn’t dancing I would be backstage with the costume designers and wardrobe manager pouring over all the incredible costumes, I was so lucky to wear the most beautiful fabrics and adornments everyday. It was so inspiring being amongst and wearing the costumes that carried such history and beauty; it was a fairytale. I knew once I finished dancing I wanted to start designing my own beautiful clothing crafted out of the most gorgeous fabrics. “
After leaving the Australian Ballet Felicia started working with a leading international dance brand, forging a successful career as head designer for Children’s and Ladies wear for European and American markets.
With the arrival of Motherhood Felicia decided to create her own label which offered a range of dance inspired pieces in beautiful easy to care for fabrics that were perfect for ballet class or for play. In 2008 Flo Dancewear was born.
“I decided I would develop my own label with all the influences of dance and design that had so inspired my career. FLO is fashion, function and form combined; three key elements also paramount in dance. I want it to be accessible to all children. I only use fabrics that are soft and special. They all stretch so that children can feel free in their clothes whether they are playing, dancing or resting. I hope you and your children enjoy FLO as much as I do!”
2015 has seen the creation of Flo Active, a natural follow on from Flo Dancewear, offering a range of dance inspired clothing with a sporty fashion twist. Catering to the older girl, Flo Active is ideal to wear for sporting activities, dancing or just hanging out. Stretch fabrics, fun prints and performance based stying are key components of the range.
